The new StarCraft has an important clarification.Blizzard is not making a service game for years, but a story-driven shooter with a regular ending.Creative director Dan Hay is straightforward about the beginning, middle and end of the story.

The story takes place approximately 70 years after StarCraft II.During this time, familiar factions have changed, and some internal alliances and conflicts no longer have to look the way players remember them.

The player-created character will be in the center

The player will be able to create and name their own hero. The main story will be told through him. This is a single-player title first and foremost, although Blizzard hasn't revealed all the additional modes just yet.

Hay specifically emphasized that the developers are not building the game around a seasonal model. After completing the story, it will be possible to return to the world, but an endless chain of seasonal chapters is not the basis of the project right now.

Open world needed between story missions

Main quests will have consequences for the story. If a particular mission proves too difficult, you can return to the open world, find equipment, power up, and try again.

This approach significantly clarifies yesterday's StarCraft announcement. The words "open-world shooter" could mean almost anything. Now it's clearer: Blizzard is building a large single-player adventure, where free zones work around the completed campaign.

Much will still change by 2030

The game is scheduled for spring 2030.This is a very early reveal, so details of the combat system and world structure have not yet been publicly confirmed.

But one fear can already be removed.According to the current plan, StarCraft is not being turned into another endless live-service.Blizzard wants to tell a story and see it through to the end.
