Monster Hunter Wilds will release on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026.Capcom is transferring to the new console not the launch build, but the current version of Wilds with all the content released so far.
This is an important difference for a late port.Switch 2 owners won't have to wait until Grand Hub, Mizutsune, Lagiacrus, or a collaboration with Final Fantasy XIV are added to the game separately.Capcom says update content will be included in the release.

The port starts with an already expanded version of the game
Monster Hunter Wilds released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in February 2025 and has received several major updates since then.In the Switch 2 version, Capcom collects this content all at once so that players start with the current state of the project.
Directly listed additions include the Grand Hub, Mizutsune, Lagiacrus, and collaboration content with Final Fantasy XIV Online. This doesn't mean that future updates will always be released simultaneously on all platforms, but the Switch 2's starting point will already be the same as the current version.

Crossplay will be preserved
Capcom confirms full support for cross-platform play.Switch 2 owners will be able to hunt together with users of other systems, and online is designed for groups of up to four people.
Additionally, Nintendo lists local wireless play for one to four participants. For a portable console, this is a separate advantage: several Switch 2 owners will be able to gather in one hunt without being tied to one TV.

Ascendance will also be released on Switch 2
Capcom has separately confirmed a version of the major expansion Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance for Switch 2. The expansion is planned for 2027 and will not be exclusive to other platforms.
This shows that Switch 2 is seen as a full-fledged part of further support for Wilds, and not as a one-off late port.Something else is more important for players: Capcom has not yet described the exact synchronization of patches between platforms.

It’s better not to guess about performance for now
Nintendo's official page lists an estimated size of 39.1GB and HDR support. But Capcom hasn't yet released detailed resolution and framerate targets for the Switch 2.
Therefore, it is too early to compare the port with PS5, Xbox Series or PC in terms of performance. For Monster Hunter, stability is especially important in large battles, and it is the technical part that will be the main issue before release.

What does Switch 2 get at launch?
So far the picture looks clear: release on December 4, all previously released update content, local wireless play, online for up to four people and cross-play.Ascendance will join this version in 2027.
The main unknown parameter is technical performance. If Capcom maintains consistent performance without too noticeable compromises, the Switch 2 will not receive a cut-down standalone version, but a full-fledged port of one of the publisher's biggest games.
For Monster Hunter on Switch 2, is portability more important to you or the ability to play with people on other platforms?
