Blizzard didn't end BlizzCon 2026 with just one hint about the future of Diablo. The studio immediately named the following number part: Diablo V will be released in spring 2029.The release is still far away, but the starting point is already clear - this time the heroes were late.
According to the official description, Sanctuary has fallen, the old heroes are no more, and Diablo has won. This noticeably changes the usual plot for the series. In past games, evil returned and had to be stopped.Diablo V begins after the world has been defeated.

Blizzard starts with the aftermath of Diablo's victory
The studio has not yet revealed the plot chapter by chapter or named the new main character.Another thing has been confirmed: the action will take place in a destroyed Sanctuary, where survivors are trying to survive after the victory of the Lord of Terror.
This allows Diablo V to avoid repeating the ending of Diablo IV.The new part is not obliged to once again collect the threat piece by piece: the disaster has already occurred before the start of the journey.Blizzard has not yet specified how much the familiar regions will change and what events will connect the two games.

The game was shown very early
So far, Blizzard has limited itself to an announcement, a cinematic video and a presentation of the general direction.Full gameplay has not yet been shown, so words about a release in the spring of 2029 should be treated exactly as the studio’s current plan.
Such an early announcement looks unusual even for Blizzard. That same evening, the company announced an even further window for new StarCraft — spring 2030.It seems that at BlizzCon the company deliberately decided to show not the coming months, but a map of its largest projects for several years to come.

What can already be considered confirmed
Right now the list is short: the game is called Diablo V, is in development at Blizzard, will be released in the spring of 2029 and will continue the story of Sanctuary after the victory of Diablo. The studio has not yet announced platforms, system requirements and the exact set of classes.
And this is the case when it is better not to fill in the lack of details with guesswork. There are more than two years left before the release, and the next Diablo is still called Diablo IV: Blizzard continues to develop it separately.
