The first technical tests of the PC version of CONTROL Resonant show a rare picture for modern heavy games: even a low graphics preset retains convincing lighting, geometry and the general image of the world. For owners of not the newest video cards, this may be more important than maximum path tracing.
Low doesn't turn the game into a different era
PC Gamer tested the game at 1080p on the low preset with ray tracing turned off and noted that the visual foundation remains unusually cohesive.Northlight does a good job of preserving materials, scene density, and environmental responsiveness even after turning off expensive effects.
This does not mean that there is no difference with High or maximum settings. It's noticeable in reflections, shadows, distance, and lighting quality, but the underlying artwork doesn't fall apart when the settings are lowered.

Remedy has room for compromise
On a more powerful PC, high settings with ray tracing give a strong image without necessarily going to the absolute maximum. The practical idea is that the player can first find a stable frame rate and then add the most noticeable effects one at a time.
Previously we examined CONTROL Resonant modes on PS5 and PS5 Pro and flexible difficulty settings.Technical scalability continues the same idea - to provide more ways to customize the game for a specific user.

Why the maximum preset does not have to be the goal
Modern PC games are increasingly using ultra settings as a reserve for the future, rather than a mandatory mode for current hardware. If the visual gain is small, a few expensive effects can cost tens of frames per second.
Therefore, it is worth comparing presets by individual parameters, and not by name.CONTROL Resonant is especially interesting because the lower end of the quality seems higher than usual.

Release is near
CONTROL Resonant releases September 24, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S;Mac version announced later. After the release, it will become clearer how the results of preliminary tests are repeated on a wide range of processors and video cards.
