Ubisoft has begun testing the launch of games on Steam without the required separate Ubisoft Connect client. The first was Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
The new scheme is called Ubisoft Connect Services.Cross-progression, cross-play, challenges and rewards remain, but you no longer need to install and run the separate Ubisoft Connect PC client.
Ubisoft directly calls the current implementation the first step and promises to gradually transfer the approach to other games on Steam.Which projects will be next has not yet been announced.
This is a noticeable simplification for players. The additional launcher has been an annoyance for PC owners of Ubisoft for years, especially on the Steam Deck and on unstable connections.
