Valve will no longer be able to manually select “Daily Deals,” “Midweek Deals,” and “Weekend Deals” in the “Discounts and Events” block on the Steam home page.At the beginning of 2027, they will be replaced by personal recommendations: each player will have their own promotions on the main page.

The company announced this on September 29 in Steamworks, a section for developers.

Hand slots now

Today this block is assembled by hand.Slots are booked by developers through Steamworks or assigned by the Steam team, and their number is strictly limited.“Day discount” is on the main page for 24 hours, “Midweek discounts” are on for 72 hours from Monday to Thursday, “Weekend discounts” are on for 96 hours from Thursday to Monday.

Valve often chooses the most popular and best-selling games.Slots are not sold, and each game usually receives such a slot no more than once a year.

Test results

In recent months, Valve has been testing a new system: some of the manual slots were replaced with selections that are assembled for each player separately.According to the company, the unit in such tests showed 10 times more games per day, and visits to game pages, additions to the wishlist and to the cart increased.Valve did not provide specific numbers.

Developers don't need to do anything

Valve has already stopped booking new manual slots, but promotions planned earlier will take place as usual.Along with the change, new tools for managing discounts and sales will appear. The company has not yet announced exactly when the new system will work: details are promised in the coming weeks.

Seasonal sales and themed festivals remain as scheduled, with the next one, the Steam Fall Sale, running from October 1st to October 8th.These are not personal prices: only the selection of discounts that the player sees changes.
