SEGA is expanding its relationship with Netflix for several series at once. The first project will be a feature film based on Crazy Taxi, but the agreement already includes two more film adaptations: a new Sonic animated series and a film based on STRANGER THAN HEAVEN from RGG Studio.
This is not a package of abstract rights “for the future.”Netflix has already named the format of each project and part of the creative team.

Crazy Taxi will become a live-action comedy
The script is being written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mund, who worked on the 2025 Naked Gun reboot.Producers include Neal H. Moritz, Toby Asher and Toru Nakahara, who are already involved with the Sonic film franchise.
There are no dates or cast yet.The format is full-length live-action, that is, a film with live actors.
Sonic will have another animated series
The new animated version is designed for children of senior preschool age.Netflix describes it as a high-energy comedy about Sonic and friends, where the team of heroes is more important than the larger overall plot.
This is a separate project, not a continuation of Sonic Prime. The development is carried out by Carlos Stevens and Toru Nakahara.

STRANGER THAN HEAVEN will take a completely different path
RGG Studio's game will receive a live-action crime film. The story takes place in early 20th century Japan: a foreigner starts out as a penniless outsider, then becomes a dangerous yakuza and eventually a major figure in the entertainment industry.
Netflix has not yet revealed the director, cast or release date. The producer is Toru Nakahara.
What's most interesting for SEGA is the sheer breadth of the deal.Crazy Taxi, Sonic and STRANGER THAN HEAVEN are almost completely different from each other, so this is not an attempt to put together one cinematic universe. The company is simply starting to systematically transfer more of its games into films and TV series.
