Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault leaves early access on PC on September 2 and simultaneously appears on Nintendo Switch 2. The sequel again divides the hero’s life between dangerous forays and his own store, but makes both halves noticeably deeper.

The game has been in early access on Steam since November 2025.It approached the full release with very positive reviews: 86% of English-language user reviews recommend the project. This isn't a guarantee of a perfect sequel, but it's a good sign for a game built around a repeating loop.

The old cycle works according to new rules

The basic idea has not changed.During the day, Will sells found items, monitors the reaction of buyers and looks for a good price. Then he spends the profit on equipment, improving the settlement and preparing for the next campaign.

But now the store requires more attention. The placement of goods, room decoration, bargaining and random events affect the final revenue.Selling has ceased to be a short pause between dungeons and has become a full-fledged system with its own decisions.

The backpack has become part of the assembly

It is not enough to simply carry away the loot.Items in the backpack interact with each other and provide additional effects when placed correctly. Therefore, the inventory resembles a small puzzle: sometimes a modest find becomes valuable only next to the desired artifact.

Greed is still punished. The further the hero goes, the greater the potential reward, but defeat takes away part of the spoils. The best runs are not built on full exploration at any cost, but on the ability to stop in time and return to the store.

Fights have become more fluid

Moonlighter 2 moved to full 3D graphics and with it changed the feel of battles.Different weapon classes, armor and abilities allow you to collect more pronounced versions of the hero.Dodging and controlling distance are more important than simply exchanging blows.

The genre does not allow you to completely get rid of repetitions.Procedural zones still use familiar rooms and enemy groups. If the cycle of loot and upgrades itself is not engaging in the first hours, new effects will not save the game. But now each campaign has more tactical decisions.

You have to develop not only yourself

The new village of Tresna begins as a refuge for people left without a home.Money can be invested in a forge, new shops and other buildings.Upgrades unlock equipment, services, and additional ways to earn money.

This way the progress gets a clear visual result. After a successful run, not only the numbers on the weapon change, but also the settlement itself. This is an important difference from many roguelikes, where development remains a set of menus.

Who should try it?

Moonlighter 2 is suitable for those who like to gradually turn their loot into noticeable growth. Not only the battle is important here, but also the moment after it: lay out the goods, check the demand and decide where to invest the profit.

If in the first part it was annoying to have to regularly return to the counter, the sequel is unlikely to change your mind. The store was not cleaned or simplified. It is still at the center of the game - and that is why Moonlighter 2 does not disappear among dozens of similar roguelikes.
