The Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance team shared their takeaways from the launch of the base game.Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto confirmed that the developers continue to take into account feedback on Wilds, and experience with the performance of the PC version should directly influence the preparation of the expansion.

Ascendance will release in 2027 and will add Master Rank, new areas, monsters, and hunter actions. The expansion is also announced for Nintendo Switch 2, but Capcom has not yet confirmed whether this version will launch simultaneously with PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Switch 2 brings back side-by-side co-op hunting format

Tsujimoto highlighted the Switch 2's portability. He said the series has historically been particularly strong in Japan during the PSP and 3DS era, when players would physically gather together to hunt. Now a similar scenario can be combined with crossplay: for example, one person plays on PS5, and the second person next to him plays on Switch 2, using a common network backend.

The developers view the new Boost Bracer not as a mandatory response to increased complexity, but as another tool.It drains the boost bar on powerful actions and creates additional damage windows, but the hunter should not be forced to use it in every fight.

Master Rank will change the behavior of familiar monsters

For creatures from the base game, simply increasing health and damage is not enough.Director Takuro Hiraoka says that each monster will have new techniques and behavior, which will force the usual strategy to be revised. This is especially important for Master Rank, where the difficulty must be based on more than just numerical odds.

The plot needs a time jump of several years. The developers want to show how the presence of hunters has changed the culture of Forbidden Lands.Nata, whom the players knew as a child, will already become a full-fledged member of the expedition.Previously, we separately analyzed Araketa, Teostra and Boost Action mechanics, and also Ascendance endgame changes.

Another goal is to make better use of Seikret on the new vertical map Skybound Eyrie.Air currents, elevation changes and planning should make movement part of the exploration, rather than just a road between arenas.
