The organizers of the Japan Game Awards summed up the results of the Future Division, a category dedicated to unreleased games shown at Tokyo Game Show 2026. The top ten awarded projects included major Japanese and international releases, including Stranger Than Heaven and Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The winners were determined by a combination of visitor voting and evaluation by the selection committee.

Future Division is interesting not as a sales forecast, but as a snapshot of which projects worked best with the exhibition audience.TGS participants see games in trailers, presentations and demos, so the award captures the impression of the current state of projects. It doesn't guarantee final quality, but it does show who managed to convincingly present the game before release.

TGS 2026 has generally become an important point in the autumn calendar.Xbox prepared a separate broadcast for the Japanese audience in advance - we wrote about it here: Xbox broadcast at Tokyo Game Show.In parallel, major publishers used the exhibition to update their lines, and Capcom continued to promote Monster Hunter and other series.

For players, the list's practical value is simple: it's a compact set of projects worth keeping an eye on after the show. The next stage is no longer awards for display, but full reviews, technical condition and feedback after release.

It is useful to compare the composition of the Future Division with what was happening around the stands themselves. An exhibition demo may do a good job of conveying the combat system or the visual style, but say little about the length of the campaign, the stability of the later levels, and monetization. Therefore, it is more reasonable to perceive the award as a sign of a strong presentation at TGS, and not as a ready-made review.
