Fable builds the combat system around freely switching between the sword, ranged attacks and magic.Playground Games calls this approach style-weaving: the player does not choose one rigid class, but collects his own set of moves and changes them directly in battle.
The new gameplay show on August 28 gave a good look at this system without editing. The hero goes to the Underwall and combines weapons, spells and control of opponents along the way.

The sword does not prevent you from immediately switching to magic
Instead of having a separate mode for each attack type, Fable allows you to chain them together into one sequence. You can start with a melee strike, throw the enemy back with a spell and finish him off from a distance.
The system is based on three familiar areas of the series: Strength, Skill and Will.In the new game, they work as a set of tools, rather than as three isolated branches that you have to choose between in advance.

Some spells are for control, not damage.
Playground Games showed off some magic tricks.Fireball and Lightning work as direct attacks.Befowl temporarily turns the enemy into a chicken, and Lift launches the target into the air and opens a window for the next hit.
Because of this, magic is useful for more than just high damage. It allows you to break enemy formations, gain time and put together your own combinations for a specific situation.
The difficulty of the battle can be adjusted separately
The developers also confirmed that the intensity of battles can be adjusted. You can make combat calmer and focus on the world, story and characters, or, conversely, increase the requirements for timing and the use of mechanics.
This fits well with the general idea of Fable: the game tries to give more freedom not only in dialogue and decisions, but also in how exactly the hero goes through each encounter.
The new Fable will be released in February 2027
Fable will be released February 23, 2027.The release is announced for Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5.
The new show shows the main thing: Playground Games is not trying to repeat the combat of the old parts one-on-one.Instead, the studio keeps the familiar mix of swords, ranged weapons and magic, but makes switching between them the basis of each encounter.
