Double Fine has announced a release date Thank You Bus Driver, the studio's first game after leaving Xbox: it will arrive on October 14.The developers themselves describe it as “Crazy Taxi meets Papers, Please!”
Three driver rules
You work as a city bus driver, and you have only three tasks:
- get to the next stop at any cost;
- stick to the schedule, because satisfied passengers say “thank you”;
- keep order: the rules are shown on the map and announced over the loudspeaker, and the violator gets a spanking.
If the passenger still does not calm down, he can be thrown out the back door.
An experiment, not Psychonauts 3
The idea came from Will Koehler, and the game was put together by a small team in just a few weeks.Tim Shafer said the deadline was about six.It will be released under the new Double Fine Action Labs label, which the studio dedicates to experiments like those born from the Amnesia Fortnight jams.
Shafer emphasizes: the label’s games are full-fledged, but small and inexpensive, and are designed for short playthroughs.You shouldn't expect Psychonauts 3 levels from them.
Platforms and price
The game can already be added to your wishlist on Steam, GOG and itch.io.The price has not yet been announced.This is the first release for the studio since it left Xbox Game Studios in the summer of 2026 and became independent again.
