Tomb Raider turned 30 years old, and to mark the anniversary, Crystal Dynamics, Flying Wild Hog and Amazon Games showed a new teaser for the remake of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. The game will be released on February 12, 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. At the same time, the director of gaming experience at Crystal Dynamics, Jeff Adams, named the approximate length of the campaign: from 14 to 16 hours.
Anniversary teaser showed golden Lara and new locations
The video was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the first part, which was released in October 1996.It features spacious locations, traps and battle scenes, and in one of the episodes the golden Lara Croft appears. The teaser does not reveal details of the plot, but it demonstrates how the studios approach the picture and the rhythm of the adventure.
The journey to the final will take from 14 to 16 hours
According to Adams, the duration depends on the playing style. The original journalists usually take from 12 to 15 hours, so the remake will be comparable or slightly longer. This happens despite new mechanics: for example, a cable with a hook on Lara’s bracelet helps her climb onto ledges and overcome traps.
At the same time, Adams asks not to chase the finale.According to him, the team built the world to evoke curiosity, and the sound team created the atmosphere of loneliness that has always made the series special. He even advised turning off social networks for a while to avoid spoilers.
The anniversary of the series is celebrated with collaborations and an exhibition
Crystal Dynamics is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary all year long.Events include an anniversary video with art of Lara from different years, a crossover with The Crew Motorfest, a comic crossover with G.I.Joe, anniversary controllers from 8BitDo and an exhibition about the creation of the series at the Derby Museum, home of the Core Design studio.
