The Sinking City 2 released on August 18 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.Frogwares returned to the Lovecraftian world, but noticeably changed the very formula of the game: now the center is not a detective system, but survival horror.

The action takes place in Arkham in the 1920s.The city is flooded, the streets are filled with creatures, and ammunition and healing items have to be saved.Research has become more dangerous and is directly related to survival.

Investigations are now optional

In the first The Sinking City, investigations were the basis of the gameplay. In the sequel, Frogwares left the detective episodes, but brought them into an additional layer. You can search for evidence, study crime scenes and receive useful items or new solutions to problems for this.

If the player wants to focus on horror and exploration, there is no mandatory return to the complex deduction system. This noticeably changes the rhythm compared to the first part.

Resources force you to choose a route

Ammunition, medicine and other supplies are limited.Sometimes it is safer to bypass the enemy or spend time looking for another passage than to get involved in every fight.

The map has optional areas, caches and additional stories. The further the hero goes from the main route, the higher the risk of spending more resources than he can find.

The city changes with the water level

Flooding affects more than just the appearance of Arkham. Some areas become accessible later, others change routes and exploration conditions.Frogwares uses water as part of the structure of the world, rather than just a background.

The Sinking City 2 does not require completion of the first game. It's a stand-alone story set in a familiar Lovecraftian universe and a more straightforward horror story where the detective part has given way to exploration, resources and dangerous encounters.
