Embark Studios is preparing The Finals' biggest update to its destruction system since launch. The new season starts on October 20, and the developers said that buildings will break down in a less binary way and leave new routes right during the match. The studio revealed the first details back on September 18 in a letter to players: the game will turn three years old in December.

Now many elements of the arena exist in two understandable states: intact or destroyed. After updating, parts of the structure will be able to maintain communication with each other.A damaged floor can sink to the floor below, and the wall can remain at an angle instead of instantly disappearing.

The wreckage of large structures will become new surfaces for movement and combat. This changes the practical meaning of destruction: the explosion breaks through the wall and simultaneously creates a new arena geometry.

Embark enhances the transfer of influence between objects. One event can trigger another, so a major collapse will develop in a chain. The developers simultaneously refined the visual cues and consistency of effects so that the player has time to understand what is happening and react.

The physics of smoke is also changing.Clouds will begin to react to forces and events within the arena, rather than remaining an almost static visual effect. For a shooter built around improvisation, this is potentially more important than just another set of weapons.

The team is starting to update existing arenas from the oldest ones.Lighting, materials, readability of space and individual planning elements change. They want to give each card a more distinct visual identity through sponsors, colors and artwork.

Sponsors will be a central part of the game: Embark wants the show's contestant to be an advocate for someone, rather than just pumping up an award line.In addition, the studio will rework the presentation of the game show itself, that is, the presentation of participants, teams and arenas.

The studio promises to reveal details of the remaining parts of the update, including balance, performance, interface and new mode, closer to the start of the season.

The main focus is already clear: instead of expanding The Finals only with content, the studio is investing in the mechanics that distinguish the shooter from its competitors. If the new physics remain predictable in an online match, the October update could significantly change the usual ways of attacking and defending.

The update is released in busy October, and the upcoming releases are collected in new week calendar.
