On September 3, The Blood of Dawnwalker is released, the first game from Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by former developers of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. It is a single-player, open-world action RPG set in the fictional 14th-century Carpathian region.

The main character Cohen is infected with vampirism.During the day he remains human and relies on the sword, signs and training. At night he gains supernatural abilities, but is forced to take into account vampire weaknesses.Changing your form changes not only the combat, but also the available routes and options for solving tasks.

Time works as a resource here

The developers abandoned the usual timer, which constantly counts down the minutes.Time advances after important actions and tasks. The player sees in advance the cost of the decision and chooses what to spend the remaining days on until the end of the story.

This approach means that you won’t be able to help everyone in one playthrough.Inaction also has consequences: while Cohen deals with one problem, other characters continue to live, and the situation in the valley changes.Rebel Wolves makes choices not just a line of dialogue, but part of a path through the entire game.

Human by day, vampire by night

The human form is designed for weapons, magic, and more traditional melee combat.Vampire allows you to use claws, move quickly and get to places that are closed to an ordinary person. You can start the same episode at different times of the day and get a different set of features.

This is not a class choice at the start of the game.Koen constantly exists between two states, so development must be divided between human and vampire skills.Night power makes direct confrontation easier, but can change the attitude of others and the way you pass.

Valley instead of a huge map

Events take place in Vale Sangora, an area where the vampire Brensis has seized power. The world is built around villages, ruins, shrines and a castle, rather than trying to fill a map with hundreds of identical dots.Local legends and Carpathian folklore must explain the structure of monsters and rituals.

Cohen's main goal is personal: to bring back his family. But the path to it depends on the allies, investigations and conflicts that the player chooses himself. The story allows for different sequences of events, which is why the developers call the game the first chapter of a saga, rather than a linear journey between story scenes.

Platforms and requirements

The Blood of Dawnwalker is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.For the minimum configuration on the computer, 16 GB of RAM, GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 580 and 60 GB of SSD are stated.Recommended tier: GeForce RTX 4060, Radeon RX 7600 XT or Intel Arc B580.

The game was created on Unreal Engine 5 and is intended for an adult audience. The official description warns of intense violence, blood, nudity and strong language.

What is important to check in the first hours

The main intrigue is not the size of the world or the number of skills. You need to understand whether the time system really forces you to make different decisions or just closes part of the content.Equally important is how noticeably different the day and night routes are.

If these mechanics work together, The Blood of Dawnwalker will be able to offer a structure that is rare for open worlds: not clearing the entire map, but a personal playthrough with conscious losses. If not, the time limit risks being perceived as a simple prohibition on seeing everything at once.
