RGG Studio began to introduce players to different eras STRANGER THAN HEAVEN.The first video of the new series of story trailers is called “Act 1: Kokura”: it is dedicated to the events that lead Makoto Daito to Japan. With three months left until the game's release, SEGA has decided to tell the story in parts rather than reveal the entire fifty-year narrative at once.

From a secret passenger to a strange city

Makoto Daito sneaks onto the merchant ship Orpheus, bound for Japan. His first stop is Kokura, a city in Fukuoka Prefecture. It is here that the hero faces the cruel rules of the new world. The trailer shows the streets of an old Japanese city, encounters with dangerous people and the first conflicts that gradually involve Makoto in a larger story.

The developers have not yet explained how exactly the episode in Kokura is connected to all future decades of the campaign. This is the first part of a series of videos about different eras. The following chapters promise to be revealed gradually;to retell them in advance in separate frames would be fortune-telling.

Fifty years of change is the main scale of the game

RGG Studio is known for its Like a Dragon stories, but the new project covers a much longer historical period. The game should show the change of eras, social orders and characters. At the same time, the authors have not yet explained the general structure of the passage and the number of game characters in a detailed technical demonstration.

The action is based on the atmosphere of Japanese cities of the past. The footage shows a combination of hand-to-hand combat, busy streets and cinematic story scenes.STRANGER THAN HEAVEN should not be automatically considered part of the Yakuza series: the new work has its own name and characters.

When will it be released and on what platforms?

Release January 15, 2027 confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. The game is also announced for Game Pass.SEGA has not yet provided the overall story length, a complete list of languages for all regions, and detailed PC system requirements.

The current trailer is useful as an introduction to the starting point of the plot. It’s best to watch how the exploration of the city will be structured and how free the battles will be in future game demos. The first episode already sets a difficult tone for the characters, but leaves the mystery of half a century of history open.
