On Steam from October 19 to 26 another one is passing Next Fest - a week of free demo versions of future games. This is not a seasonal sale: the point of the event is not in discounts, but in the opportunity to try projects before release, compare management and understand which of them really deserve a place on your wish list. Source: official Steam.
How the festival works
Participants submit individual test builds, and Valve assembles them at Next Fest official page. The demo does not have to contain the beginning of the full game.Sometimes this is a stand-alone episode, a tutorial level, or a pre-selected campaign fragment.Saves from this version are also not always transferred to the release.

To search, it's easier to open the genre, then check the language, controller support, and minimum requirements. If you load dozens of samples at once, some of them will remain untouched. It's better to make a list for several evenings and start with games where you don't yet understand the most important element: combat, controls, or co-op play.
Littlelands: An Off-Farm Adventure
In the updated demo version Littlelands you can create a hero, meet the residents and go outside the village. The authors describe an approximately two-hour fragment with six zones, twenty characters and seven types of opponents. Here it is more important to see how smoothly farming and battles coexist than to rush to complete all the activities.

According to HyperMegaPixel, after the previous test, the combat, mini-map, hairstyles and clothing of the hero were redesigned. The game's early access is scheduled for November 16th.Checking the demo now will help you evaluate the changes before the paid version is released.
Cleaner Company: cleaning at risk of life
Another demo is available at Cleaner Company. This is a cooperative game about a team cleaning up traces of disasters on abandoned space objects. There are hostile creatures on the objects. The physics of objects also gets in the way: careless movement can turn neat cleaning into even greater chaos.
The developers promise network forays for up to four people and improved equipment for the extracted resources. The full release is scheduled for January 26, 2027.This is an example of a demo that is useful to test with friends: a good co-op should create interesting solutions, and not just a reason to laugh at failures.
What to check before adding to your wishlist
After twenty minutes of playing, you can already understand whether the tasks are readable, how stable the camera is, whether it is convenient to use the inventory, and whether the rules are explained without a long stream of hints.Everything else, including the size of the final campaign and the quality of later levels, cannot usually be determined from a trial build.
Do not confuse the author’s promises with what you saw for yourself. You can keep an interesting idea on your wish list, but before purchasing it is useful to wait for reviews of the release version and check the availability of the Russian language. The localization for the festival demo sometimes differs from that stated for the finished game.
Next Fest will end October 26.Free demos may remain available after the event, but you shouldn't count on this for every game.If you are interested in a sampler, it is wiser to play it this week rather than postpone it indefinitely.
