At RuneFest 2026, Jagex showed off RS4: a completely new MMORPG in the RuneScape universe. The game is being made on Unreal Engine, the action will unfold in Gielinor in the Sixth Age, and it will be released, according to the studio, no earlier than in a few years.
The main thing about RS4
RS4 is still a working title: the studio calls the project the fourth generation of RuneScape and does not promise that the name will be preserved. The game will not replace RuneScape, Old School RuneScape and RuneScape: Dragonwilds: each of them has its own team, its own development plan and further investments.RS4 is designed as another way to experience the world of Gielinor, and is built on the technology created for Dragonwilds and the experience of developing with the community.
Ashenfall: setting
The story will begin in Ashenfall, the northeastern part of the world that players first saw in Dragonwilds. The story takes place years after the finale of Dragonwilds, where the battle with the dragon queen Kuldra was introduced in September with version 1.0.Ashenfall is just a starting point: Jagex wants to eventually take the game to familiar and new places in Gielinor.
