Romero Games, the studio of Doom and Quake co-creator John Romero, has found a publisher for its new game. The news was confirmed by Romero himself.According to him, some of the employees who were previously laid off have already been returned to the team.
The project was left without funding in the summer of 2025, but did not close and continued to live in a different form. The concept was revised, and the scale was adjusted to the current composition.Today the studio employs about 15 or 16 people, and before the layoffs there were 110.
The name of the publisher and details about the game have not yet been revealed.Romero limited himself to short comments: development is going well, the team is happy with the result, and everyone in the studio is “simply incredibly happy.”
This is a shooter, everything is logical, but everything else in the game is completely new, and the whole team is full of enthusiasm. We really like the way the game is turning out.
The genre remained the same, but the rest, according to the author, was invented anew. For a small team, this may even be a plus: fewer people, less breadth of ambition, and more focus on one clear idea.
The studio has not yet announced a release date or platforms.
