New movie Resident Evil directed by Zach Cregger, opens September 18th.Instead of retelling a specific game, it tells a separate story about medical courier Brian, who receives a strange order and is sent towards Raccoon City.
The main character doesn't look like a super soldier
According to the first reviews, one of the main advantages of the film is the vulnerability of the hero.Brian begins the story without combat training and is forced to react to danger literally on the fly.Resources are scarce, space is often limited, and a mistake can quickly turn a situation into a disaster.
This is why critics compare the structure of the film not with the later Resident Evil action films, but with the feeling of the first games - when the player does not yet know what awaits behind the next door.
Horror mixed with dark humor
Cregger doesn't shy away from absurdity and comedy, but humor doesn't negate the threat.The film uses familiar motifs from the series without trying to literally repeat the plot of Leon, Chris or Jill.
The game series itself is also actively expanding this year: we recently wrote that Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 will be released on Nintendo Switch 2.The new film adaptation opens in theaters on September 18.
