A new studio from the Disco Elysium team showed my first game. Red Rooster combines a non-linear RPG with physical simulation of objects: here you can not only talk, investigate and make decisions, but also move, break and set things on fire. The developers want the environment to respond to the actions of the hero, and not remain a beautiful decoration around the dialogues.
Fire investigator with a prison background
The main character Redrick "Ruster" Rust is serving a life sentence in a light security prison. The reason is due to the high-profile failure of a meditation device.A week before his parole hearing, he is approached by a government agency representative who offers to infiltrate the fire department run by Redrick's brother and find a serial arsonist. In return they promise a pardon.
The action takes place in Arta Tantor, a city on an archipelago with three political centers.According to the authors, the motifs of Eastern Europe, the Balkans of the 1980s and alternative science fiction are mixed here.In the midst of the heat, sports games take place, power outages occur and suspicious fires break out.

Why did the developers abandon the usual isometry?
Unlike Disco Elysium, Red Rooster will be completely 3D.Summer Eternal uses the Unreal Engine and physical objects: they will allow you to move, rearrange, use in tasks and destroy with fire. The point is not only in entertainment. The studio wants the state of the streets and interiors to change after the player’s actions and influence further passage.
The developers name among the reference points Planescape: Torment, Arcanum, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. This is a list of inspiration, not a list of promised mechanics: it’s too early to draw conclusions about the depth of the simulation before demonstrating full gameplay.

Who will be involved in the investigation of a series of arson attacks?
Redrick will be helped by mathematician Astrid Albers, who is addicted to opiates, and Rico, a bus driver with nunchucks who is engaged in social activism.Such a company well explains the tone of the project: behind the criminal plot there will be strange characters, politics and psychological conflicts.
A separate part of the story is devoted to the inner world of the hero. The authors describe a kind of “chicken coop” in Redrik’s head, in which his dark sides appear.Exactly how this will affect replicas and decisions is still unknown.
When will it be released and what will be shown?
No release date has been announced. Red Rooster is planned to be released on PC first, then on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement was accompanied by a collectible 500-page art book Anthology Volume One with concepts, world structure and development materials.
The studio already has an impressive art direction, but hasn't revealed the final combat system, PC requirements, or cost of the game.It makes more sense to judge Red Rooster based on future gameplay showings rather than announcing it as the next Disco Elysium ahead of time.
