The release of PS6 and Xbox Helix may be pushed back to 2029 due to a global shortage of RAM.Fortune writes about this with reference to data from SK Hynix, the second largest DRAM manufacturer in the world. This is a market forecast, not a statement from Sony or Microsoft.
Capacities are scheduled for years
SK Hynix has already reserved more than half of its production capacity for 2027 and 2028.The company expects memory demand to outpace supply for another three or four years, with shortages lasting until at least 2030.New factories require huge investments and take several years to build, so closing the gap will not be possible quickly.

Consequences for consoles and video cards
The consequences are already noticeable on the DDR5 market: the rise in component prices will affect both new consoles and video cards. Therefore, the launch of PS6 and Xbox Helix in 2027 and 2028, according to the publication, looks unlikely, and 2029 is closer to reality. Some economists expect the AI bubble to burst soon, which could reduce demand for memory, but even then, electronics prices are unlikely to immediately return to previous levels.
