The closure of BioWare did not put an end to the film adaptation of Mass Effect.IGN writes about this: according to its data, an Amazon MGM Studios television series based on the series remains in development. The publication received the information from anonymous sources inside Prime Video; there is no official statement from Amazon in the publication, so this is a rumor for now.

Words from IGN sources

Sources told IGN that the entire creative team behind the project remains on board. As of August 2025, the showrunner was Doug Jang, known for the TV series “Mindhunter” and the film “Star Trek Beyond,” and the script was written by Daniel Casey, who worked on “Fast and Furious 9.”The production team included Karim Zreik, Ari Arad, and BioWare series director Mike Gamble.

Team composition and timing

Officially, the series has been in development since 2024.The action will take place after the original trilogy, and not around the origin of Shepard.Once upon a time, plans included the start of filming in the fourth quarter of 2026, but the release date has not yet been announced. In the spring, Casey denied reports that Amazon was asking to rewrite the script for the sake of viewers far from games.

Since Mass Effect is now without a studio, the series may be the main way to see the continuation of the universe. But until confirmation from Amazon, these data should be treated with caution.
