Bungie is rebuilding its Marathon update plan.Content that was supposed to be released on September 22 was moved to a major update Symbiosis - “Symbiosis” on December 8th.
At the same time, the studio is abandoning a “rigid seasonal schedule.”Big features will no longer be required to meet pre-set seasonal deadlines.

A separate update will still be released on October 6th
It will reset progress and the in-game economy, add a new Rewards Pass, quality of life changes and balance. The experimental PvE mode Vault Breaker will return for a limited time.
Bungie explains the restructuring by the problems of the second season: some players reached the endgame too quickly, while others had a much harder time making progress. The October reset should level out the starting point.
Permanent PvE coming in December
Symbiosis will add the first permanent PvE Marathon mode, an updated Perimeter zone, a social space with a shooting range, and a new Runner shell. The developers are also testing team deathmatch.
A special focus is placed on the first hours of the game: Bungie admits that Marathon lacks depth, variety and a clearer entry point for newcomers.
Seasons don't disappear, the rhythm of development changes
This is not a complete rejection of updates or seasonal content. The studio wants to be less dependent on the calendar and release major features when they are ready for testing and release.
For a game that only launched in March, this is a noticeable course correction. The next test of the new model will take place on October 6, and the main test will take place on December 8.
