Heretic + Hexen reappeared on Game Pass in August 2026, and this is a good reason to remember Nightdive Studios' expanded re-release.Raven Software's two shooters are still noticeably different from the usual Doom successors.
Instead of shotguns, there are staves, magical artifacts, dark fantasy, and a more complex level structure.Hexen additionally uses character classes and interconnected hubs.
The re-release was not limited by resolution
4K and 120 frames per second are available on supported hardware.Added cross-play for up to 16 players, local split-screen, support for community-published mods, and a remastered soundtrack by Andrew Hulshalt.
Hexen now has a clearer map navigator and the ability to change characters during playthroughs.If desired, you can disable some of the modern changes and bring the game closer to the original.
There are two completely new episodes
Nightdive and id Software have added Heretic: Faith Renewed and Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur.These are not archived maps, but new content created specifically for re-release.
Heretic + Hexen is available on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.
