Arrowhead Game Studios translated on October 20 Helldivers 2 from GameGuard anti-cheat to Easy Anti-Cheat.The studio explained that recently there have been more cheating mods in the game, and the old protection dealt with them worse than it could.Along with the new anti-cheat, Arrowhead has included additional security measures.
There is no official support for mods in Helldivers 2, but players have been installing cosmetic and sound replacements for years.Arrowhead acknowledges that mods have long been part of PC culture, and says they value harmless modifications that don't bother anyone. The problem is that the new anti-cheat can hook them too.The studio does not specify which mods will continue to work: everything that is installed manually remains at the player’s discretion.

The community greeted the news without enthusiasm. The thread with the announcement on Steam collected more than 1,500 responses within a day, and by evening PC Gamer counted 846 negative reviews per day versus 146 positive. If something stops running after the update, Arrowhead suggests writing to support through Zendesk. In fact, mod owners can only wait for the authors to update their builds.
Just recently released in the game Scope of Authority sniper kit, and the anti-cheat change occurred exactly on the day of its release.
