Fake PS5 emulators have been found on GitHub; instead of running console games, they infect Windows and steal personal data.NordVPN experts warned about the danger for players who try to run games from PlayStation 5 on PC.Engadget writes about this.
Attackers publish fake projects and pass them off as KyTyps5 and AnyPS5 emulators. The links lead to ZIP archives with executable files for Windows.Once launched, the malware interferes with Microsoft Defender and causes the antivirus to ignore certain files.
The virus is an information stealer: it collects saved passwords, session cookies and other personal data.To hide traces of infection, the script itself deletes the malware files approximately two minutes after launch.
NordVPN advises avoiding emulators from new repositories with few reviews and no connection to the official developer sites.A beautiful project on GitHub does not guarantee anything, especially when along with it they offer to download an unknown EXE file.
