Core Keeper received a free update 1.3 Riders of the Underground. The main new feature is mounts: any type of cattle can now be saddled and used to move around the underworld.

To do this you need a new Saddle item. After taming the animal, you can give it a name and customize its behavior outside the trip: leave it in place, allow it to wander nearby, or force it to follow the character.

How mounts work

The update introduced Moss, a calm subbiome with dense vegetation. There you can find Orex, a new dinosaur-like member of the cattle. The developers specifically emphasize that this zone is designed without the usual pressure from predators.

Another notable addition is Hookshot. It expands the methods of movement and should be especially useful in already explored worlds, where the distances between the base and remote areas have long become large.

Riders of the Underground is part of Core Keeper's broader development plan. Amid TGS, we're also keeping an eye on other September updates; about the exhibition itself and its we wrote separately about early closure.

What else is included in the update

Pugstorm also announced new pets, gear, and changes to magic and summon builds. The developers release a full list of changes along with the update, so it is better to check the exact numerical changes with the current patch notes.

The update is available free of charge on supported platforms. For older saves, the main practical change is related to movement: mounts and Hookshot reduce travel time without requiring you to start a new world.
