Cairn will receive its first free expansion, On the Trail: Deep Water, on October 29th. The Game Bakers continues to develop the climbing game post-launch and is adding three new climbing zones.

The main mechanical innovation is water soloing. The routes pass over water, so a fall no longer means immediate death: the fallen climber ends up in the water and can continue the attempt.

What does water soloing change?

In the expansion, you can play not only as Aava, but also as Marco. Previously, he stayed next to the route and supported the heroine, now the developers give the opportunity to go through new sections directly behind him.

Three new zones are connected by a common theme - the footprint of the legendary climber. The studio is calling Deep Water the first in a series of free DLC, so the October pack shouldn't be the last of the route expansions.

Cairn has already been released on PC and PlayStation 5, and a version for Switch 2 is planned for early 2027. Other news from the past game week is collected around Tokyo Game Show 2026.

This is the first of several DLCs

For owners of the main game, the expansion will be free. This is also important for the structure of the passage: instead of a separate paid campaign, the developers add new challenges to the already existing system of climbing, endurance and finding a foothold.

The Game Bakers have not yet revealed the duration of the three zones or the exact order of access to them. A date, a new route type, two playable characters, and the status of the first free DLC in a series of future expansions have been confirmed.
