It looks like the return of Ace Combat managed to hit the mark on its first try. Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve sold over a million copies in its first week.Bandai Namco announced the result on October 9 and called it the fastest millionth start in the history of the series.

The full release took place on October 2 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.Owners of the Deluxe Edition received early access on September 29th.The publisher does not divide sales by platform, so it is not yet possible to say which version brought the bulk of the circulation.

Seven-year wait for a new license plate

Bandai Namco Aces relied on a familiar combination: arcade dogfights, fictional states, large operations and a plot about pilots. The campaign is complemented by first-person episodes between missions. The publisher also calls the online modes the most ambitious for the series.

A million per week is an indicator of sales, not the number of concurrent players. The press release does not provide a detailed analysis of regions or individual publications. It is also important that the record refers specifically to the speed of reaching the mark, and not to the total circulation of the franchise.
