Hideo Kojima considers PHYSINT to be the project with the greatest commercial potential among the games he is capable of making. In an interview with The Washington Post, he called it "the best-selling game I can make," attributing the confidence primarily to the audience-friendly spy action.
However, the release is still far away.Kojima himself says that PHYSINT is at the conceptual stage: a small team is determining the visual direction, game systems and overall design. Therefore, current statements do not mean that the structure of the game is already fixed.
The project survived a change of publisher
PHYSINT was originally developed in partnership with Sony, but the publisher stopped funding in the summer.Xbox later took the project under its wing.Kojima said that Sony’s decision was a serious blow and was unexpected for him, but Kojima Productions’ relationship with PlayStation, according to the studio, remains normal.
The reasons for the separation of the parties were actively discussed in the press.Kojima Productions separately urged caution regarding unconfirmed reports about the studio's budget, timing and financial condition. There is only one confirmed fact now: development continues with Xbox.
Kojima is making a new spy action game instead of Metal Gear
According to the author, one of the sources of the idea was the constant demand from the audience for a new Metal Gear.He can't return to this series, so he decided to make an independent spy game.Kojima formulates his bet simply: the espionage genre itself, in his opinion, remains understandable and attractive.
At Tokyo Game Show it was revealed that Bill Skarsgård will play the lead role;Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe are also announced. We have already talked about PHYSINT cast and new poster, and before - about transition of the project from PlayStation to Xbox.
Exclusivity has not yet been publicly defined.Kojima said that this question relates to Xbox and he himself cannot confirm the set of platforms. Therefore, the project card currently reflects the publishing partnership, and not the final list of devices.
